We Look Different!

We Look Different (Women in Veils) is a visual interpretation of the “Western gaze” which operates ironically by envisioning Muslim women as demanding liberation. This work addresses the stereotype of women wearing veils in a light-hearted, illustrative manner. The literal variation of the shapes of veils suggests a metaphorical distinction of the women behind the veils. The illustration is digitally produced on cotton textile performing as satirical commentary on this stereotype.
